The difference between a smooth first night and a stressful one often comes down to what you leave behind. Not just your phone number — though that matters — but a clear, organized snapshot of how your household works. A prepared sitter is a confident sitter. A confident sitter means a calmer night for your kids.
This checklist covers four key areas: emergency information, house rules, bedtime routine, and food. Print it out, fill it in, and leave it somewhere visible — ideally the kitchen counter or fridge.

Leave a Written Version, Not Just a Verbal One
Even if you walk your sitter through everything before you leave, written instructions remove ambiguity. When your sitter is managing bath time and a phone call simultaneously, they should not have to remember what you said — they should be able to glance at the counter.
